Default Alliance chat - access for all

Someone says in alliance chat: 'hey, can anyone give me a hand with xxx' or 'we need xxx for HoH'. Only the officers can reply. So you either whisper the guy, meaning he gets like 10 whispers at once and has to then explain who's said they'll come as what, or that he has what he needs now, or whatever to everyone, or you try to get an officer to convey your message in alliance chat for you. It's crazy. A really awkward system.

Guilds don't (as far as i know, and in my experience) have any great problems avoiding spam in Guild Chat (which is open to all) so i don't see why the problems in Alliance Chat would be so great that access must be limited.

My alliance of 4 fairly small guilds doesn't make too much of a distinction between members and officers. Pretty much everyone, including those who do have access to Alliance Chat, have been complaining about the annoyance the way this system works at the moment creates.

It's a very small change to make; it's not like I'm asking the dev's to design me a whole new skillset or party-forming mechanism or anything. Just free access for anyone in an alliance to their respective alliance guild chat.

[perhaps, for much bigger alliances with more members, there should still be an *option* for guild leaders to choose to restrict their alliance chat to officers and leaders only. Wouldn't be necessary in my alliance, but maybe it would in some.]

Anyone agree?

There is an option. Just click on the box for alliance chat and you should be able to view it. If not, it's a gliche and should be reported.

/not signed I have a hard enough time keeping up with my 20 member guild chat alone, much less try to catch something from someone important through the idle chatter of hundreds.

I understand the reasons ANet did it this way, but I think giving the guild leaders the option of having it available to all members would be very nice. I suppose if there are two small guilds, they should just merge to one, but I don't like how it seems like they are forced into that decision for the sake of easier communication. Ah well.

Anyway, /signed for leaders to toggle this option.

I agree on the idea that there should be an option to whether or not only officers + leaders or everyone can chat on the alliance chat. so, /signed to that. There are some who need it to be only officers, while others it would be good to let all talk, so I think perhaps that is the way it should be.

/Absolutely signed.

Leaders deserve the right to determine this for their guild. To larger guilds, it may seem fine, but in guilds like mine where everyone plays an equal part, it's not fair to the members.

There's a related petition/argument on this topic, here's the link:

Thanks for the link. I guess then this should be:

Do you want to give guild leaders the option to allow all to use alliance chat?

That seems to garner a lot more support.

No way and the way I see it I hate spam so I feel anything to have to do with trading should be filtered out of every chat but the trader channel period

I already posted requesting toggle option here, I think it's obvious that some want this and others don't, and toggles are the easiest way to pleae everyone - I'll quote my earlier post here though so that it's visible again.

View online players (default on)
Show tags in gold in outposts (default on)
View tags in gold in outposts (default on)
Allow Guild Hall access (default off)
Allow Guild storage access - if we get it with Factions (default off)

This type of flexibility reflects the type of things people need. Not all alliances will be the same. Not all partners within an alliance will be the same - two guilds who know each other well may want a really close tie, but also want the added player base for alliance battles, so want one level of alliance with each other, and another level to the other guilds.
Customization (and the ability to disregard ANY level of chat you don't want by unclicking it) means that this should present no intrusion to those who don't want it, but open up communication between allies for those that do. How can anyone be against it if you don't have to use it?

Give leaders the decision to allow their guild members alliance chat, and simply allow other guilds to decide if they want to receive member or officer alliance chat from each guild. That way you set what you want to receive.

Instead of re-directing folks to YOUR thread, just sign here. One thread is enough; if you want them to read your suggestion, even if it pre-dates this thread, just refer to it here, as I did.

We need one highly visible, post-full thread, not eight small threads quickly buried by demands for minipet battles, new faces, quivers for rangers or +4 more AL for customizing shields, and I don't think anyone cares whose thread it is. Just put the pertinent info in here, and keep this thread visible.

Perhaps a mod will be kind enough to merge the alliance chat threads?

I agree, there should be an option for it. As not everyone is in an alliance with a number of huge guilds. Some only have a few smaller guilds.

I was so dissapointed to find out that the quilds in our alliance couldn't talk to each other, we are suppose to be in an alliance, but we can't talk to each other, and can't tell who is online or anything of the sort? Makes perfect since.
